The Making of "The Flood"

In this tutorial you will use some pretty simple Photoshop techniques to blend different images that normally don't match (like the dry soil cracks and the sea) into a beautiful and dramatic surreal composition. Let's get started!

Getting the stock-images

The most important thing in a landscape photo manipulation is the right stock, so pick them carefully! I've chosen the following stock:

Step 1

Create a new file and drag in the Turtle picture.

Step 2

Open the Sand Castle 1 image and cut out the castle and the road. I used the Pen Tool. After you cut it out, drag it into the new file. Decrease the image size so it will fit on the turtle's back. Place it like in the image below. Create a mask and erase the bottom part with a basic brush (black color and soft edges).

Step 3

Open the Sand Castle 2 image. Cut it out as you did in Step 2. Decrease its size and place it on the turtle's back as shown.

Step 4

Next, we'll create a bigger castle. Duplicate the layers of the two castles that you have already cut out by pressing Command + J on the layer you want to duplicate. Decrease the images size by pressing Command + T. Now flip them horizontally so they won't look strange and place them as you think they should fit.

Step 5

Create a new layer. Use the Clone Stamp Tool to place some sand on the turtle's shell.

Step 6

Now let's create the sky. I used four different pictures to create this sky because I want the result to be unique. You can't achieve that if you use a stock picture just the way you find it. Open the Sky 1 image and place it as shown. Create a mask and erase the bottom edges.

Step 7

Open the second sky image (located in the PSD source file). We only need the skyline from this picture so erase the other parts on the layer mask.

Step 8

Open the Sky 3 image, decrease its size and place it on the left side of the design. Create a mask and erase the parts that don't fit.

Step 9

Open the Sky 4 image and place it to the right. We only need the skyline from this one too so erase the rest with the mask.

Step 10

Create a new layer. Select a basic brush with smooth edges (black color) and start drawing some lines on the sand at the turtle's edges. Then go to Filter > Blur > Gaussian Blur (Radius 7px), and then set the layer Opacity to about 30-40%.

Step 11

Open the Sea image. Drag it into the file and decrease its size. Duplicate the layer by pressing Command + J. Place the first layer at the right of the turtle and the second layer at the left. Create a mask for both layers and erase the parts that we don't need, as shown below.

Step 12

Open an image of Sand Castle 3, then drag it in and flip it horizontally (Edit > Transform > Flip Horizontally). Place it so the sand castle would be on top of the turtle's shell. Decrease the opacity of the photo so you will see where to place it.

Now that the image is placed correctly increase its opacity back to 100% and create a mask for this layer. Erase all the sand that is not on the shell. Now create a clipping mask by pressing Alt and going to the Adjustment Layers > Hue/Saturation, then set it as Hue: +5, Saturation:+20, and Lightness: +5.

Step 13

Now drag the Desert photo in and erase in the mask the parts on the turtle and the sea. Set the blending mode to Multiply.

Step 14

Create two clipping masks. For the first clipping mask go to Adjustment Layers > Levels with the next input levels: 24 , 1,00 and 189. For the second clipping mask go to Adjustment Layers > Hue/Saturation, and set Hue at 0, Saturation at -41, and Lightness at 0.

Step 15

Open the Sea picture. Place it at the back of the turtle, like you see below. Open the same picture again and place it to the left of the turtle. Create a layer mask and start erasing the parts we don't need as shown.

Step 16

Now let's play a bit with the colors to create a dramatic atmosphere. Go to the Adjustment Layers > Levels with the next input levels: 22, 1,00 and 239.

Step 17

Go to Adjustment Layers > Color Balance, then set the color levels to: +9, 0, and -26.

Step 18

Go to Adjustment Layers > Gradient map, and follow the settings below. Also, set the Opacity to 60%.

Step 19

Go to Adjustment Layers > Color Balance. Set the color levels to: -18, 0, and -7.

Step 20

Go to Adjustment Layers > Photo Filter. Set the the Density to 50%.

Step 21

Create a new layer, then use a basic brush with smooth edges to paint the turtle's eye. This is a minor fix but it makes it look better.

Step 22

Go to Adjustment Layers > Hue/Saturation, and use the following settings: Hue of 0, Saturation of +100, and Lightness of 0. Set the Opacity to 26%. Apply this on the turtle's right sides where the light comes from. Do it just like you see in the image of the layer's mask.

Step 23

Go to Adjustment Layers > Curves and use the settings below.

Step 24

Go to Adjustment Layers > Gradient Map. Use the settings shown below. Then set the Opacity to 50%.

Step 25

Next go to Filters > Other > High Pass. Set the radius to 7, 0. Set the blending mode to Hard Light. Erase the edges on the layer mask so only the middle of the image stays sharp.

Step 26

Go to Adjustment Layers > Curves. Use the settings shown below: Output is 56 and Input is 99.

Step 27

Now this is the last filter we are applying. Go to Adjustment Layers > Photo Filter. Set the the Density to 25% so the atmosphere will look warmer.

Step 28

Apply some splashes where the water hits the turtle. Do it with a customized brush.

Create a Breaking Apart Effect on the Dark Side

Step 1

Open your image that you would like to break apart. I have here an image of a man's face, which we'll use as a working sample. Choose the Polygonal Lasso tool (L), or any selection tool you’re comfortable with. Draw a selection around the face, hand, and shirt, to isolated them from the background. Press Command + J for Layer Via Copy command, then rename it to "Face 01."

Step 2

Right-click on your layer, choose Convert to Smart Object command, then double-click on your Smart Object layer. From the Adjustment Layer choose Hue/Saturation command, set the Saturation value to -100, then select the Brush tool (B) and make sure your foreground color is set to black. Also, make sure your Hue/Saturation Layer mask is active, draw with it around the face and whole skin. This well apply the command just on the shirt. Press Command + W to close the Smart Object, click Yes when you are asked and save.

Step 3

Open a Rock texture image.

Step 4

Drag the texture into your composition. Set the blend mode of the layer to Pin Light, and rename it to "Crack 01." Move the texture layer into a suitable position, as shown below.

Step 5

Open another rock texture image, drag it into your composition, and place it under the "Face 01" Layer. Rename it "Rock tex."

Step 6

With the Layer "Rock tex" selected, press Command + Alt + Shift + N to make a new layer above it. Name it "Color" and fill the new Layer with a skin tone (#d39f7e), then set the Blend Mode to Color.

Step 7

Open another rock texture image. We will use this one as a background for our composition. Name it "background," and place it under the "face 01" Layer. Next, hold down the Command key and click on the "face 01" Layer to load selection from it.

With the "background" layer selected, click on the Add Layer Mask button. Also, make sure your Layer Mask is highlighted and press Command + I to invert the Mask. Right-click on the layer and choose the Convert to Smart Object command.

Go to Filter > Blur > Surface Blur, and set the Radius value to 100 and Threshold to 20. Click OK to apply the filter. Then go to Filter > Render > Lighting Effects and set it as shown below. Double-click on the little sliders that appear next to Lighting effects filter to view the Blending Options for Lighting Effects, and set the Mode to Multiply.

Step 8

Choose the Polygonal Lasso tool (L), and with the Layer "face 01" selected, draw a selection as shown below. Next, press Command + J to duplicate the selected area and name this Layer "Face break." Add a Layer Mask to the Layer "face 01," then hold down the Command key and click on the thumbnail of the layer "face break." Next, fill the selected area with black on the Layer Mask. Select the Layer "face break," hold down Command, and move it a little to see underneath it.

Step 9

Draw a selection around the lower part of the face, and press Command + J to copy it into a new Layer, then name this Layer "Chin." Click on the Layer Mask next to the Layer "face 01," hold down the Command key, and click on the thumbnail of the "Chin" layer. Next, fill the selection with black. Move the "Chin" and "face break" on top of the other layers.

Step 10

Hold down Alt key and click on the Eye next to the "Crack 01" Layer to hide all the layers except it. Next, go to Select > Color Range, select the black area, then set the Fuzziness to 125, and click OK to apply. Click on the Add Layer Mask button. Alt-click on the Eye icon to show all other layers.

Step 11

Select the Layer "face 01" and press Command + Alt + Shift + N to make a new Layer above it, name it "Shadows Soft Light" and change the Blend mode to "Soft Light." Choose a Brush tool (B) and with black paint on the lifted area in your composition. Next, lower the Opacity of your brush to 50% and draw on the rock texture that appears underneath the ski,n as shown below. This will hide the line that appears after isolate the image from the background, and add some depth to your texture.

Step 12

Select the "face break" Layer and press Command + J to duplicated, then click on the eye next to the "face break" layer to hide it. Rename the new layer "Basic Breaking," then choose Lasso tool (L). Next, draw a small selection around any are you want to break off. Hold down the Command key and move the piece to the right side. Repeat this procedure multiple times until you have the same effect as shown below.

Step 13

Choose the "Chin" Layer, then press Command + T for the Free Transform command and rotate it. Next, add a Drop Shadow effect set to the value you desire.

Step 14

Return to "Basic Breaking" layer, press Command + J to duplicate it, then click on the eye next to "Basic Breaking" layer to hide it. Rename the new layer "Advanced Breaking," then draw a selection around each piece and move them to the right.

Now divide them into more smaller pieces making sure the pieces get smaller as they move to your right side. Next, go to Filter > Distort > Spherize, and set the Amount value to 100%, then click OK to apply the Filter. Go to the "Chin" layer and right-click on it, and choose Copy Layer Style. Right-click on the "Advanced Breaking" layer and choose Paste Layer Style.

Step 15

Go to the "Crack 01" layer, highlight the layer mask. Press (B) for the Brush tool and paint with Black on the neck. We don’t want the effect to extend to the neck or shirt.

Step 16

Now make a several copies of the "Crack 01" layer. Adjust their placement and shape, Modify them with Free Transform, and edit their Masks so we could take a piece from the eye.

Step 17

Select the "face 01" layer and draw a selection around the eye. Press Command + J to duplicate it, name it "Eye." Select the Layer Mask of the "face 01" layer, hold down the Command key and click on the "Eye" Layer to load a selection form it, then fill it with black.

Step 18

Select the "Crack 01" Layer Mask, then draw with black using the Brush tool (B), as shown below.

Step 19

Go to the "Rock tex" layer and press Command + J to Duplicate it. Next, press O for Burn tool and set the exposure to 100%. Draw in the place where the eye was, as shown below.

Step 20

Go to the "eye" Layer and draw some selections with the Lasso tool (L) to take little pieces from it. Move them away a little bit. Copy and Paste the same Drop Shadow effect on it.

Step 21

Go to the "Rock tex" layer, move it on top of all the other layers, set the Blend Mode to "Overlay" and Opacity to 37%. Next, click on the Add Layer Mask button. Go to the "face 01" Layer and Command-click on the thumbnail of the Layer to load a selection. With lasso tool (L) selected, hold down the Alt key and subtract from the selection until just the Shirt remains selected. Go to the "Rock tex" Layer mask and fill it with black, as shown below.

Step 22

Add a Levels Adjustment layer on top of all layers, and enter the values shown below.

Step 23

Add a Hue/Saturation Adjustment layer on top of all, and enter -30 for the Saturation.

Conclusion

Creating a breaking apart effect is easier than it looks, but it takes time. I hope that you enjoyed this tutorial and learned something from it.

Introduction

The techniques outlined in this tutorial are pretty involving and time consuming. I’d like to tell you that there are magical shortcuts but if you want a rich, atmospheric image then this is definitely a good introduction.

Beauty retouching is very popular in todays society. A more effective use for me is to create mood rather than fake beauty. You could spend tens of hours working on an image before you get it right, though a massive timesaver is shooting your own source imagery. I’ll take you through all of the tricks and techniques I employ, but you’ll need a pretty sound knowledge of Photoshop though as this isn’t for beginners.

Many of the settings, values, brush-strokes described here are open to interpretation. As what may suit one image will need adjusting for another. The key is that you understand what we’re doing and why, then the skills become transferrable. If anyone is interested the man in the image is wearing a Dirty Velvet t-shirt. Their shirts are pretty sweet. See them here

Step 1

Open the Man image (which you can get here) and cut him out from the background. I’m not going to walk you through step by step as there are many methods and variations on how to do this. But I start by duplicating the "Background" Layer and drawing a path using the Pen Tool. Go roughly around the hair, but draw around the bigger clumps of detail

Turn the path into a selection and create a Layer Mask for the Duplicate layer. Create a layer and fill with grey. Put this in between the "Background" and the "Man Duplicate" layers.

Duplicate the "Man Duplicate" layer and position it between the "Man Duplicate" layer and the"Grey" layer. Equip the Smudge Tool with a very fine soft-edged Brush (pick different sizes between 1-3) and set the strength to between 90-98%. Work on the "Man Duplicate copy" layer mask, not the actual layer itself, and begin smudging in hair detail. If you want to use the real image as a guide just reduce the "Grey" layer opacity.

Working on the "Man" layers now. Clone out where you can see the background coming through the hair. Clone hair color underneath the new areas of the Mask on the "Man Duplicate copy" layer.

Finally, add a slight Gaussian Blur (around 0.5 pixels) to the "Man duplicate copy" layer mask. Then apply the Blur Tool to the "Man duplicate" layer mask focusing on the hair areas.

Step 2

Create a new document, I shall refer to this as the Working Document. For the purposes of this tutorial I’m making mine A5 landscape at 300 dpi.

Step 3

I found this background on istockphoto.com. You can get it here or use something similar. Drop it into your Working document. Also drop in the Man cut-outs preserving the Layer masks at this stage. Duplicate the "Man Duplicate copy" layer to strengthen the loose hairs. I’ve flipped and resized to fit the background better.

Step 4

The Man image still had some of the white background reflecting on the edges of the image. I removed these using the clone tool. Set up a soft-edged Paintbrush and pick a source point very close to the areas you’re cloning out.

Use the Dodge Tool set to Midtones at an Exposure of 11% to reveal some of the detail in the Iris on the "Man" layer.

At this point run a Smart Sharpen over the top "Man" layer and then merge the "Man" layers into one.

Step 7

Create a new layer and use the Rectangular Marquee tool to create a square. Fill the square with black and then apply a 30-500mm Lens Flare (Filter > Render > Lens Flare). Get the Flare as central as you can, so all the circles within the Flare line up.

Step 8

Set the "Lens Flare" Layer Blending Mode to Screen and boost the Levels to over Saturate it with light. Adjust the Hue/Saturation until blue.

Step 9

Now we’re going to distort the Flare beyond recognition. Hit it with the Wave Filter (Filters > Distort > Wave). There really is no precise way of getting the desired effects here so I’ve screen-shot a few variations. The best way I’ve found so far is to duplicate your Flare, set-up the Wave filter as in the screens and apply. Then move the Flare around the canvas and re-apply (Command + F). Repeat 6-7 times. If it doesn’t go the way you want it just Command + Z, move, and re-hit the Wave. You should eventually end up with something like this.

Step 10

I cleaned up the "Wave" layers with a soft-edged Eraser as there was some undesired overspill. Then on a new layer, create a white Circle. Apply a Gaussian Blur to the Circle and then add a Drop Shadow and an Outer Glow. Finally take the Layer Opacity down to 90%.

Step 11

If you’re still not satisfied with the "Wave" layers (as I’m not), then tackle them with the Liquify Tool. Take each "Wave" layer that you’re not happy with a gently amend using Bloat and Forward Warp.

Step 12

Add a Channel Mixer Adjustment Layer over the "Man" and "Background" layers. I’ve gone for a blue hue to match the Light effects. At this stage it’s too strong for the man and not strong enough for the background. Command-click the "Man" layer thumbnail to make a selection, then select the "Channel Mixer" Layer mask thumbnail and Fill with 15% Black.

Here’s how my layer hierarchy is currently looking.

Step 13

Create a Hue/Saturation Adjustment Layer between the "Man" and "Background" layers to equalize the saturation of the Background and the Man. Next, duplicate the "Background" layer and adjust the Levels to make it darker. Finally, add a layer mask to the duplicate "Background" and hide the middle of the dark "Background" layer to reveal the layer underneath. Pick a massive soft-edged brush to do this.

Step 14

This is where it starts to get fiddly so, strap in! Turn the Channel Mixer Adjustment layer visibility off for this. I want to eliminate the shadow under the neck so first duplicate the "Man" layer. Next, use the Clone Tool to clone out the areas of shadow that hit the torso of the shirt.

Now using the Lasso Tool, select an area of the neckline that isn’t covered by shadow. Copy and paste it onto a new layer, then use the Warp Tool to fit it with the neck that’s already there. Apply a Layer Mask to it and mask out the areas that overlap the hem of the shirt.

Apply a minimal Smart Sharpen as shown below.

Select the "Man copy" layer and use the Dodge Tool (Set to Midtones with an exposure of around 15%) with a small soft-edged brush, to lessen the impact of the shadow on the neck under the chin.

Use the Dodge Tool to lessen shadows that conflict with the light source. Think about where shadows would fall if that light source existed. At this stage you don’t need to go crazy as we’ll be working more on this in a less destructive way.

Use the Burn Tool to lessen the highlights that conflict with the light source. You’ll need to mix it up with the Exposure set to both Highlight and Midtones with an exposure set to around 15%. If the area of highlight has some white or close to white pixels, then it may benefit to run your brush over the area with the Highlight exposure set before you reapply the burn tool with the Midtone exposure set. You won’t need to do this on darker pixels.

Finally we need to do some cloning. This can be a very involving process depending on the level of detail you need to retain. In this instance, you’ll need to use the Clone Tool set to varying exposures and the Burn Tool.

Clone the mustache hair using the mustache parts that are free from shadow as a start point. This will require a small soft-edged Paintbrush, keep changing your source point after each short stroke. Finally use the Burn Tool set to Shadows with an exposure of 18%, take a 2 pixel brush and burn random hairs to give as much depth as on the other side of the ‘stache.

To deal with the shadow on the nostril and the skin below the nostril you’ll need a steady hand. Select the Clone Tool and use a small soft-edged brush to clone in some skin from the cheek. Go up to the nostril edge thinning the crease, but not eliminating it. Then reduce the Clone Tool opacity and go over the nostril curve effectively reducing its darkness.

Step 15

Add a Curves Adjustment layer to the edited "Man" layer, click the Use Previous Layer to Create a Clipping Mask box. Set up as shown below to boost highlights and make a lighter exposure. Add another Curves layer to darken the image and boost shadows. Give both of these Adjustment layers a hide all Layer Mask.

Step 16

Next we begin painting with light. Take the "Curves_highlights" layer first and select it’s layer Mask thumbnail to work on the Mask. Take a soft-edged Paintbrush and set the Opacity to around 20-30% and begin painting in light. Going over areas more than once to build highlights is essential, and in many areas you’ll need to spot mask areas off using the Lasso tool.

Do the intricate details zoomed in to 200%, you may need a tiny Paintbrush (around 1-5 pixels to get really detailed). Lower the opacity of the brush to blend in areas you highlight and really up the opacity to get the shiny bits. Zoom out at regular intervals to see how it looks. Anything you’ve overdone can be pulled back by loading the brush with black instead of white.

Use the same techniques on the darker Curves Adjustment layer. Build up white areas on your black mask to reveal areas of shadow. This is a time consuming process and can take hours when done with the level of detail and realism required for a professional job. The beauty of this technique is that it’s infinitely adjustable without damaging pixel information. At this stage, it looks like I’ve overdone the highlights so I can simply reduce the highlight Curve Adjustment layers Opacity.

Step 17

We’re going to be doing some destructive editing now so duplicate the "Man" layer. We want to work on the layer that is directly below the Curves Adjustment layers so select that and place the duplicate directly underneath it.

Using the Dodge and the Burn Tools it’s time to really exaggerate the highlights and shadows. I’ve used a variety of Paintbrush sizes, the full range of Highlights, Midtones, Shadows and at varying Exposures from between 5-100%. This isn’t an exact science a lot of it is trial and error, don’t forget to spot mask areas off using the lasso tool. If you overdo something then you may need to revert back to your saved "Man" layer.

I’ve slightly overdone it so I’m going to reduce the layer opacity to about 80% to show the untouched Man layer underneath.

Step 18

To further tie the ball of light into the image we need to add areas of soft glow. Take a big soft-edged Paintbrush and load it with white. Turn the brush Opacity down to 20%. Create a layer below the "Man" layer and add some ambient touches to behind the hands, shoulders, and such.

Create another layer just above the "Man" layer (below the "Adjustment" layers) and use the "Man" layer as a Mask (Command + Alt + G). Paint in some more glow behind the ball of light and extend a little up to the face. Build up behind the ball of light a fair bit.

Finally, create a layer just below the "Channel Mixer Adjustment" layer and paint some glow over the left arm.

Step 19

Now would be a good time to add anything to the special effect. I’ve added these stars that I got from istockphoto here. I adjusted the Hue/Saturation to turn them blue and changed the Layer Blending mode to Screen. I’ve also tweaked the "Channel Mixer Adjustment" layer to get a little more green into the image and added another "Channel Mixer Adjustment" layer to the "Man" (using the "Man" layer as a Mask) to add a touch more warmth to the skin tones.

Step 20

Flatten the image and run a Smart Sharpen filter.

Duplicate the background layer and set the Layer Blending mode to Overlay. Zoom in to 100% and go to Filter > Other > High Pass. Set up and OK it.

Add a Levels Adjustment Layer

Then add a Color Balance Adjustment Layer to give more warmth to the skin. Mask the background off so that the brickwork isn’t too red.

Step 21

And to finish... Duplicate the "Background" layer and invert (Command + I). Adjust the Levels to increase contrast.

Add a Gaussian Blur.

Finally change the Layer Blending mode to Overlay and set the Layer Opacity to 20%.

The End

That’s it! Be as thorough as you can with the Dodging, Burning, and light painting. The more hours you put in, the better the result will be. The majority of the techniques are transferable as well, so if you’re not excited about the fantasy element and just want to create mood for your portraits, then you can use this tutorial as a starting point and adapt the method to fit the result you're after.

Create an Atomic Explosion in Photoshop

Creating explosions and fire in Photoshop is always tricky, and an atomic explosion is a big challenge. It was for me, but after some experiments, I figured out a nice way to achieve this effect. So in this tutorial I will show you how to create that.

Final Designs

Step 1

Open a new document. I’m using 800px by 600px canvas size for this tutorial, but you can use a bigger size. Then place the image you want to use for the background. The one I chose is from http://www.sxc.hu/photo/838611.

Step 2

Create a new layer and rename it to "First Smoke." Then select the Path Tool (P), and create a mushroom shape similar to the image below.

Step 3

Create a new layer. Make sure that the Foreground is white, and the Background is black. Then go to Filter>Render>Clouds, but hold the ALT key of the keyboard in order to make the effect stronger.

The whole layer will be rendered with clouds. Now we need to resize it. Go ahead and make it smaller, as in the image below. We do this so there is more detail in our explosion.

Step 4

Go to the Paths Palette, select the mushroom path, and click on the Load Path as Selection button. Then go to Select>Modify>Feather, and use 10px for the radius.

After that, mask our clouds by going to Layer>Layer Mask>Reveal Selection.

Step 5

Create a new Folder in the Layer Palette. Rename it to "Little Smokes." Then create a layer in this folder. We will create 3 different smoke shapes for the base of the mushroom.

Repeat Step 3 to create the clouds. Then with the Lasso Tool (L), create a marquee selection, as in the image below. Then repeat Step 4; only this time use 2px for the Feather Radius.

After that, repeat this step two more times, but with different layers.

Step 6

Again, lets create another layer, and name it "Smoke 2." This time, place it in front off all the other layers. Let's repeat Steps 3 and 4 again, but don't create a different selection, just create the top of the mushroom.

After you've masked the area, create a marquee selection. Click with the right button of the mouse on the mask thumbnail. Then choose Select Pixels. We need this marquee to apply the filter, so go to Filter>Distort>Spherize.

Step 7

Now lets create some details for the mushroom smoke. Create a new folder in front of the other layers, and rename it to "Smoke Details." Inside this folder, add a new layer, and again repeat Step 3. After that, go to Filter>Distort>Pinch. Then with the Eraser Tool (E), select a basic brush with 0% hardness and 20px radius. Now just delete the edges of the layer to make it uniform.

Repeat this step two more times to create more details.

Step 8

Change the Blend Mode of the "First Smoke" and "Smoke 2" layers to Hard light, and use the same blend mode as the 2 folders we’ve created as well.

Select the background image. Then go to Layer>New Adjustment Layer>Hue and Saturation, use the values below.

Step 9

Select the “First Smoke” layer. Then go to Layer>New Adjustment Layer>Levels. Use the values below.

Step 10

Go to Layer>New Fill Layer>Gradient, use (#ffa200) and (#2f2200) for the colors, and set the Style as Radial. Change the Blend Mode to Overlay. After that, duplicate this layer to make it stronger ;)

Step 11

Now we add the final details. As we are using the Clouds filter, you probably don’t have the same smoke as mine. So it's important to understand the concepts of what needs to be done at this stage. If necessary, make some areas darker, or brighter. To do that use the Dodge Tool and the Burn Tool in the layers you want to change. See the example below.

Step 12

Now lets create the smokes on the ground. Again, lets repeat Step 3, but make the smoke layer very small, as in the image below. You will have to repeat this step 2 or 3 times because we want a wide block of smoke.

After that select the 3 layers you have just created. Then go to Layer>Merge Layers. Next select the Eraser tool, with a brush set to 0% hardness, and a small size set as 10px Radius. Use it to start deleting the layer until you get a nice explosion shape, as in the image below.

Lastly, go to Image>Adjustments>Levels. Then move the sliders in order to get more highlights and add more white to the fire.

Step 13

Repeat Step 12, only use the eraser to create a different shape. This time change the blend mode to Color Dodge, and skip the Levels adjustments.

Step 14

Repeat Step 12 again, but delete different parts, and make the clouds even smaller. The secrets here are we will add a Layer Style of Color Overlay with the color set as Black, and the Blend Mode set to Soft Light.

Step 15

Just one more time, let's repeat Step 12. This time change this layer’s Blend Mode to Hard Light.

You can repeat Step 12 more times, if you want to make your fire even more detailed and realistic. The idea is have multiple layers. There should be a base fire layer. A layer with highlights. Then in front of that a darker one should be placed. And yet another one should be placed in front of the darker layer that has more highlights. This gives depth to the explosion.

Step 16

Lets create those waves of air that the explosion produces. To do that select the Ellipse Marquee Tool, use 20px Feather. Create a circle selection and fill it with a white. After that, create another circle, which is smaller. Give it a 5px feather, and place it in the center of the bigger circle. Then just delete that area from the bigger circle, as shown below.

After that, click with the right button of the mouse on this layer in the Layers Palette. Then choose Select Pixels. Then go to Filter>Render>Clouds.

Step 17

Go to Edit>Transform>Distort, and distort the image until you get a nice perspective, as in the image below.

Step 18

Now go to Image>Adjustments>Levels, and then go to Image>Adjustments>Hue and Saturation. The idea is to add more white to this layer. Make it looks more like a cloud instead of fire.

Step 19

Duplicate the layer. Then move it to the base of the mushroom. Then add some blur by going to Filter>Blur>Gaussian Blur. After that, change the Blend Mode to Screen, and resize it.

Step 20

With the Eraser tool you can delete some areas of this layer, like some parts of the trees. This will make this air wave more realistic.

Conclusion

The first time I tried to do this effect I took some time trying different methods, but after doing that 3 times I was able to simplify the process. So now it’s basically repeating the same Filters and tools several times. Duplicating the layers won't give the same effect, that's why we repeat the steps many times.

You can even mask the gradient fill, and add different adjustments to the image, to get different colors and styles. However, the best thing in this tutorial is that you will be able to create amazing fires and atomic explosions now.

I've broken the process down into four general stages; Erase, Replace, Insert and Convert.

In the first stage, Erase, you will remove the black stripe from around the lighthouse... allowing you to reveal the insides and/or whatever is behind.

In the second stage, Replace, you will let the clouds blow in to show what it looks like behind the lighthouse. You will also add the missing portions of the spiral white stripe.

In stage three, Insert, you will add the spiral staircase to the inside of the lighthouse.

Step 1: Erase

First, duplicate your background layer by dragging the the "Background" layer to the "Create a new layer" icon at the bottom of your Layers palette..

You never want to work with your original image layer... never. So, duplicate it and name it White Stripes. Turn off visibility on the Background layer, and select the White Stripes layer

We can cheat a little here and use the Magic Wand to help with our selection. Select the Magic Wand Tool and set the options like so

Now, begin by selecting the big black stripe at the bottom of the lighthouse. Once that is selected, hold down the Shift key and select the other black stripes. (Don't forget the little bit at the bottom right, at the base.) Also, there is no need to worry about the Magic Wand grabbing the top of the lighthouse... we'll fix that in a second

Now, we are going to make a layer mask, but we want to mask everything BUT the stuff we just selected. So, invert your selection

You should end up with a selection that looks like this

Now, create a layer mask by selecting "Add Layer Mask" from your Layers palette. You will get a linked layer mask in your White Stripes layer

You will then see that your White Stripes layer now has "holes" punched where the black stripes used to be. You've just masked them out of the image, but the image data is still there... just no longer visible

Now, with the White Stripes layer mask selected

select the Brush Tool and set it's options to a small hard-edge brush

Select a foreground color to 100% black and begin brushing black into your layer mask. The effect of black on a layer mask is to make the mask 100% opaque or 100% masking the image. (Conversely, 100% white will make the mask 100% transparent or unmasking the image. Grey will get you something in between... it all depends on how black or white the color you are using on your brush.)

It will look like you are erasing part of the image... you're not, it's just being hidden by the mask.

Begin to clean up the boundary line between the white stripes and what was the black stripe. It would be very helpful to zoom in a little. Don't worry about the boundary line between the sky and the black line just now, we'll get to that shortly. What you should end up with is a clean, hard edge at the white stripe

Now, begin to clean up the boundary line between the sky and the black line. Since we are dealing with fluffy, wispy clouds we do not want a hard edge here. So, select a brush with 0% hardness

and begin to erase the sides of the black stripes. Don't be cheap, really push the edge out. We want the clouds to blend in, and we're going to need a little space to do that

Now, we've got to deal with the top of the lighthouse. Remember the Magic Wand selected it as well? Change your foreground color to 100% white and go grab a small hard-edged brush. With your White Stripes layer mask still selected, brush white at the top of the lighthouse to make the layer mask transparent. The top will reappear

Ok, so at this point you should be finished with the Erase stage and your image should look a little something like this

Tip: Never work on your original background layer.

Tip: Always use a layer mask when hiding image data on a layer.

Tip: When painting on a mask, 100% black = 100% opaque, 0% black (a.k.a. white) = 0% opaque (a.k.a. fully transparent)

Step 2: Replace

Now, we are going to begin to bring in the background clouds. To do this, first we want to create a new layer which will accept our cloned clouds. You always want to have your cloned data stored on a new layer. This way, if you have issues later, you can undo it without destroying your entire image.

Click the Create a new layer button on your Layers Palette and name the new layer Clouds. Re-order your layers by dragging the new Clouds layer below your White Stripes layer. The reason we are doing this re-order is because we only want the clouds to show through in the "holes" in the mask we just created; not on top of the white stripes. Your Layers Palette should look something like this

Zoom in so that you can see decent detail. With your new "Clouds" layer selected, select the "Clone Stamp Tool", grab a medium sized soft-edged brush and set the options to

Now, Option-Click on part of the clouds to define the source for your clone. Begin to clone the clouds from the source point to the new Clouds layer. Watch the colors and textures you are cloning... blend; you want to make the transitions as smooth and subtle as possible. Pay closest attention to the boundary lines, because that is where people's eyes will first jump

For example, the clouds seem to have "fingers" of white and blue towards the upper right. If you make the "fingers" extend past the boundary convincingly the transition will look best. It may take some time to get it right. Spend the time... don't cheat

You will most definitely need to re-define source points quite a few times for this step. To best match color and texture, you will want to work in from both sides of the lighthouse. So, for the left side of one of the stripes, you will want to the pull clouds from the left side relatively close to the area you want to fill in. For the right side... pull from the right side. In the middle you will have a rather harsh boundary line where the left and right clone data touches. Just continue to blend that boundary line with the clone tool using similar colors. I zoom in and out frequently to get different perspectives on the work. If you can tell where the "real" clouds and the newly cloned clouds meet... you are not done

yet.

You should end up with something like this when your are done

Now, it's time to add in the remaining part of the white spiral. If you think about it, the only part of the white stripes that we want used to be covered by the black stripe.

Create a new layer and name the it Hidden Stripes. Re-order your layers so that the Hidden Stripes layer is between the Clouds layer and the White Stripes layer

With your Hidden Stripes layer selected, grab the Gradient tool. It's a sub-selection under the Paint Bucket tool. Just click and hold, and a menu should pop up

Look at the white stripes on the lighthouse... they are dark on the edges, light in the middle. This gives the feeling of depth. Since you already know the general shape of a lighthouse (cylinder or cone), this feeling of depth translates (in your head) to round. We want to have this same feeling for the parts of the white stripe we have to create.

Select a foreground color close to (but a little darker than) the middle of the white stripes. Then, select a background color close to (but a little darker than) the very edge of the white stripes. The reason we are choosing colors which are a little darker is because we are dealing with the inside of the lighthouse and the colors will be the same, only darker, inside

Set the Gradient tool options like this

Pay close attention to the type of gradient selected. The fourth option available, Reflected Gradient.

With the Hidden Stripes layer selected, and your Gradient Tool selected, click and drag from the center of the lighthouse outwards to about the edge. Hold down the Shift key while dragging as this will allow you to constrain the line to the horizontal plane. This will force the "line" of the gradient to match the direction of the lighthouse itself. When you let go, you will have a nice smooth gradient from light grey to dark grey underneath the existing white stripe. It will bleed over a bit, but don't worry about that for now

If the colors are not right, change them and just draw a gradient over and over until it seems to fit in nicely.

Now, with the Hidden Stripes layer still selected, create a layer mask and fill it with 100% black. Your gradient will disappear, but that's OK, we only want it to appear in very specific locations

With the layer mask of the Hidden Stripes layer selected, grab a hard-edged large-ish 100% white brush. Begin "painting in" (really unmasking the gradient you created before) the back white stripe. Since the gradient is already there it looks as if the stripe has depth to it. If you need to, change between 100% black and 100% white to remove and add to your image. Because you have been using masks on other layers, and are painting into a lower layer things end up looking pretty nice

Just for grins, you can move your Hidden Stripes layer to the top to see just how sloppy you were. But, since you were doing things on a lower layer... it does not matter

Ok, enough of that. Back to work. Put your Hidden Stripes layer back between White Stripes and Clouds.

When you are done any touch ups, you should end up with a nice looking, contiguous, white spiral; you are done with the Replace stage

Tip: Always clone to a new layer.

Tip: Take advantage of layers and masks you already have in your image. There is no need to waste time and detail on hidden parts of the image that you will never see.

Step 3: Insert

It's now time to start working on the long spiral staircase that will end up in the middle of the lighthouse. (Yes, I know a real lighthouse would not have a single spiral staircase in the middle like this. They are not invisible either.)

Jump over to your spiral staircase source. Since we are going to be shrinking this down pretty substantially to make it fit into the lighthouse, you can be a little less than perfect at this point... i.e. cut some corners. (If you really want to be hard-core about it, take our time here and select things carefully by hand. I didn't... and I won.)

Grab the Magic Wand tool, set the tolerance to 64 and click on the black portions of the staircase. (You will have to play around with the tolerance value for things like this... if you are not getting enough selected, increase the tolerance, deselect, and try again. If you are getting too much, decrease the tolerance, deselect, and try again. For some reason I have a liking for powers of 2. Can't explain it, I just do, OK?) You should end up with a selection like this

Copy your selection and paste it into your Lighthouse document. Rename the new layer Staircase and move it to the very top of your layer stack. It's going to look pretty rough at this point, but that's OK for now

Create a layer mask for your Staircase layer and mask out the portions of the image we will not need. Really, all we are looking for here is 1/2 turn. So continue masking till you've got a decent 1/2 turn of the stairs. It will be much easier to work with if we shrink the size of this turn a bit. So, with the "Staircase" layer selected, Edit>Transform>Scale to about 50% size

Now, it's time to start building the complete staircase. Select your "Staircase" layer and duplicate it. It will automatically be named Staircase Copy, that's fine for now. Since we only have 1/2 a turn so far, we need to work on the other 1/2 of the turn. Do an Edit>Transform>Flip Horizontal on Staircase Copy. Move it around a bit so that the central post and hand rail of the staircase match up. You may need do to a little bit of mask clean up here. What you should end up with is a pretty convincing looking full turn of a spiral staircase

Now, if you've been saving lots in the past, we're about do something that is not easily undoable. At points like these, I like to save a new version of my document, so if I ever have to go back, I can.

With the highest Staircase layer selected, select Layer>Merge Down. Essentially merging Staircase Copy and Staircase into a single layer called Staircase. It will ask you if you want to Preserve or Apply the layer mask. You want to select Apply. You are now left with a layer, Staircase, with one complete turn of a spiral staircase. Edit>Transform>Scale an additional 50% so that you have some room to work.

You want to duplicate and stack multiple Staircase layers on top of each other until you end up with spiral staircase that will reach from the base to the top of the lighthouse. Once you have a large enough stack, merge all those layers back down into one single Staircase layer

You should then have a complete spiral staircase, ready for insertion

Now position your Staircase layer on top of the lighthouse. Use Edit>Transform>Scale so shrink and squash the staircase a little so that it looks like it would fit inside.

Use Edit>Transform>Perspective to pinch the top and widen the base of the staircase so that it looks like it actually has some perspective and appears to get smaller as it goes up. Tweak and adjust things till it looks right to your eye

Now it's time to re-order your layers so the staircase appears to be inside the lighthouse. Move Staircase between White Stripes and Hidden Stripes.

And you are now done with the Insert stage

Tip: Make use of perspective and scale. It's easy for people to notice when something "just looks off" in an image.

Step 4: Convert

It's time now to step back and look at the image as a whole. More often than not, a 'chopped image is too clean. For instance, the Hidden Stripes layer is just too smooth and even for me. It needs to be lighted a little differently, maybe some noise, etc. This is purely personal taste.

For my image, I chose to run the Filter>Render>Lighting Effects filter. The sun in the original image appears to be coming from the upper left... so you want to mimic that with the filter.

I also chose to run the Filter>Noise>Add Noise to add 1% of noise to the gradient. Then, after a quick use of Filter>Blur>Gaussian Blur things started to look a little more like I was imagining.

There are thousands of ways to adjust your image, color balance, brightness, contrast, filters, etc... keep at it until it feels right

Finally you will want to size, crop and convert your image to JPG for posting. (See, I told you I would get convert in there somewhere.)

And you are now done with the Covert stage... and with your final image as well

Conclusion

There are many ways to achieve the same goal... this was mine. I hope you found this tutorial useful and easy to follow.

Let's start.

Step1: in Ps ver 9 the first step is to use your Smudge brush at about 46% opacity and smooth out her skin, hair and teeth until they have a plastic look to them

But if u use Ps CS ver u can do it by apply Filter >> Blur >> Smart blur
and make the parameters Radius =38 ,Threshold=25 and Medium for Quality

Step2: Now draw some oval shapes in the darker skin tones and place them on her joints…look at the angles of her joints to help you with the placing. Just keep adjusting them until they look right. Notice that I have some darker ovals and some lighter ovals…the lighter ovals are placed where I thought more light would fall.

Note>>u can draw these oval shape by Elliptical marquee tool (M) and use the two colour #b7684a for dark area and #c08572 for lighter one
Step3: Where you only have one oval on a joint, eg, the neck, shoulders, elbows and wrists, you have to copy and paste these joints from your background over the top of your ovals and then erase as much as is needed until it looks as though there is a gap between the joint and the oval.
Now >> with the Eraser tool(E) erase the parts of the oval shapes that u do not need them use the Pic. below as aguide for u
Then >>again with the eraser tool and select the women original layer and with
Clone Stamp Tool(S) and set sample=current and below and start to get ride of some of the body in neck, shoulders, elbows and wrists as appear as there are spaces bet. joints

Step4: After cloning, this is how your joints should look.
Now using your pen tool(P), draw in the lines that hold the joints together. I added a shadow to the knee lines for more effect u can do it with the brush

Step5: Here you need to blacken her mouth and move her chin and lower lip down to give the full puppet effect. I also drew in two faint brown lines to define her chin/jaw more.

Step6: Next I airbrushed a lighter skin tone onto all of her body and gaussian blurred it until it looked right (you will have to play with this until you are satisfied with your result). I also added highlights to her hair in the same way. This gave Charlize more of the plastic puppet look that I was looking for.
Now draw in the dots/holes where you would like to attach the strings.

Let's start:

Step1: first open new project Ctrl+N and chose ur image size for me 800*600 pxs are good

Step2: Then go to Layer > New Fill Layer > Gradient and then select the parameters u prefer U can use the image below as reference and you can move the gradient to the side of the pic...

Step3: In adobe Illustrator and this program is greet u can do such greet effect and create ur own vectors by it ((Down load illustrator HeRe))
First select Text Tool(T) and make ur space for the text u want (just like the image below) then type the letter as 2
THEN by this tool which u can find in tool bar select it and go to the letter and press on it
SO that the letter converted from text feature to shape as shown in the image below and then go to Effect > 3D > Extrude&Bevel
Step4: you can use the image below as reference to adjust ur parameters
NOTE:from this options you can control the 3d effect of the letter

Step5: use Drag and Drop method to bring ur work from adobe Illustrator to Photoshop
As you see in Layer pelette the Illustrator work appear as Vector Smart Object
Step6: make anew layer above the vector smart object then select Pen Tool(P) and make ur selection as shown in the image below then right click on the selection and chose Make selection and adjust the Feather to (o) px

Step7: on the selected area go to Layer > New Fill Layer > Gradient and adjust ur parameters ..you can use the image below as reference
AS you see here the Layer pelette ....u can group each vector smart object and its gradient layer in one group
Step8: Then repeat the from step3 as you first return to Illustrator and type ur letter or no. then select the tool to convert the text to shape and go to Effect > 3D > Extrude&Bevel and set ur parameters to control the 3d effect of ur letter
Again by Drag and Drop method to bring the Illustrator work to photoshop and make ur selection and so on ...........
Here u make ur gradient colour for the selected part of ur letter

AS you see the two vector layer and each have its gradient color and grouped
Repeat from Step3>>>to>>>Step7

Finally you can get this results

Let's Start

Step 1

Open Photoshop and create a new document. I used 1920x1200. After that select the background layer and go to Layer>Layer Style>Grandient Overlay. Use #150b06 and # 321c0f for the gradient colors, Radial for Style and Normal for Blend Mode.

Step 2

Create a new layer and go to Filter>Render>Clouds. Make sure that the colors were black and white for the foreground an background.

Step 3

Change the Blend Mode of the Clouds layer to Color Dodge.

Step 4

Select the Eraser Tool (E). Use a regular brush. Change the Hardness to 0% and use a big size. Now erase some areas, just leave the center like the image bellow.

Step 5

Place the logo and aling it in the center of the document. Go to Layer>Layer Styles>Outer Glow. Use #fffde2 for the color, Color Dodge for the Blend Mode, 80% opacity, 18% for the Spread and 18 pixels for the Size. That will create a nice glowing logo.

Step 6

This tip was from my friend Cameron, he sent me this image and told me that it would be a nice way to create some effects like the Hejz work. You can download the image here.

Step 7

Cut an area of the image and paste it in your document. Rotate and resize it to fit with the symbol. After that change the Blend Mode to Screen.

Step 8

Now go to Image>Adjustments>Levels. Increase the black and the a bit of the white of the image. That's necessary to match the colors of the image with the backgournd.

Step 9

Go to Edit>Transform>Scale, reduce the size of the streaks. Then go to Edit>Transform>Warp. Move the grid to make the streaks follow the symbol.

Step 10

Go to Image>Adjustments>Hue and Saturation. Increase the Saturation and the Hue. Reduce the Lightness.

Step 11

Duplicate the sparks layer. Go to Edit>Transform>Flip Vertical. Then resize it and adjust the position like the image below.

Step 12

Copy another art of the original Photo and paste it in your document. Repeat the steps 8, 9, and 10.

Step 13

Repeat again the Steps 8,9, and 10 to create a tail to the symbol, like the image below.

Step 14

Now lets create some stars, I have explained this in other tutorials so I won't spent too much time again. Basically just create a new layer and fill it with black. Make sure you have black and white for the background and foreground colors. Then go to Filter>Noise>Add Noise. Use Gaussian for, 15% Amout, and Monochromatic. Then change the layer's Blend Mode to Screen and go to Image>Adjustments>Levels. Increase the black and white levels untill you get nice stars. Then just repeat the same steps again in this same layer.

Step 15

Here it's just to illustrate the idea I had of this golf player that hit the ball and the ball was the commet thing. So I used a photo from iStockphoto.com, you can buy it here.

Step 16

Place the golfer in your image and align it at the botton of the page. Also select the Brush Tool, use #d88c4d for the color and with a big brush, very soft create a light behind the player. Use 25% Opacity.

Conclusion

Now just add some texts and other small effects like the glow behind the golf club. This sort of exercise is really cool because we can learn a lot from how to create some effects or famous brand styles such as Nike, Apple, Adidas, and others. These companies have their own style so you can play with that in order to learn how to reproduce that in your own design.

Let's Start: First the images below u can use it >>For me i use the first one

Step1: First use the Pen Tool(P) and make selection for the flower and separate it in new layer
AS shown in the image below the layer with its background and another layer for the body of the flower

Step2: On the Layer palette click the part marked in the image below and then select Hue/Saturation and insert the parameters as shown in the image below

AS u see the image converted to black/white colour
Step3: make selection using PEN Tool(P) for the part shown in the image below as half of the flower petals then right click and Make Selection and chose 0 pxs as feather radius as shown in the third image

Step4: after making ur selection >>chose the mask as in image below and then>>select the Brush Tool(B) and with suitable smooth round brush and select Black colour for the foreground and make the flower petals colour
HERE >>i will explain how to use the mask features
First:::: select Brush tool and Black as foreground and fill the selectrd area with the brush will colourize the selected part as shown in the image below
Second:::: select the Brush tool and White for foreground and fill the selectrd area with the brush will decolourize the selected area as shown in the image below

SO: u can use this technique if u make some thing wrong u can repair it
Step5: By the same way select another part of the flower as shown in the image below and make the same steps for giving the colour (the original colour og the flower)

Step6: as shown in the image below again using Pen Tool(P) and right click then >>Make Selection and chose 0 pxs as Feather Radius
And on the mask >select Brush Tool(B) and set Black for foreground and fill the selection with the brush as it will converted to acolourized area (the original colour of the flower)
U can also use the same way to colourize the stem of the flower
Step7: Finally >> make the selection on the above layer on Layer Palette and as previous make Hue/Saturation as explained last time
And make the parameters as shown in the image below and make Colorize active

Then PRESS Ctrl+I so that the mask is converted and the original pic. appear again
Step8: Here we make another mask but the mask here Hide All (if u can't understand this part plz send me ) as here to colorize the selected part u have to chose Pen Tool(P) and make ur selection for one or more petals as shown in image below and then >>select Brush Tool(B) and set White as foreground colour and fill the selected area with the brush so the selected part will colourized ((as the first mask was Reavel All and to colourize we chose black not white))
Step9: Again the same steps as on standing on the above layer and select Hue/Saturation and set ur parameters (NOTE:ur parameters in this window will guide u to chose ur colour) so u can use ur parameters and chose ur colour
Then PRESS Ctrl+I so again the image return to the ORG pic. Then>>select Pen Tool(P) and make ur selection for one or more petals as shown in image below and then >>select Brush Tool(B) and set White as foreground colour and fill the selected area with the brush so the selected part will colourized
Step10: Again the same steps as on standing on the above layer and select Hue/Saturation and set ur parameters
Then PRESS Ctrl+I so again the image return to the ORG pic. Then>>select Pen Tool(P) and make ur selection for one or more petals as shown in image below and then >>select Brush Tool(B) and set White as foreground colour and fill the selected area with the brush so the selected part will colourized
Step11: Again the same steps as on standing on the above layer and select Hue/Saturation and set ur parameters
Then PRESS Ctrl+I so again the image return to the ORG pic. Then>>select Pen Tool(P) and make ur selection for one or more petals as shown in image below and then >>select Brush Tool(B) and set White as foreground colour and fill the selected area with the brush so the selected part will colourized
Step12: the most important part in this tutorial to give some reality to ur Design change the Blend Mode for all layer that contain Mask to Darken

Let's Start

Step1: first make anew layer adjust it 800*600 pxs And fill it Black colour

Step2: go to Layer > New fill layer > Gradient ...And adjust the parameters as the pic. below with Radial Style
Step3: Then Duplicate the gradient layer as shown in the pic. And change the blenf mode to Colour Dodge as it will increase the lighting effect in the image
Step4: Make anew layer name it "Clouds" and on it go to Filter > Render > Clouds
and note that the foreground and the background are White abd Black
u can do it by press D
Step5: then change the blending mode of the Clouds layer to Overlay and the Opacity to 50%
so u can get image as shown below

Step6: Make ur shape
First make anew layer name it "Shape" use only the Pen TOOL(P) and make ur shape or latter with it as shown in pic. below after make the shape

Go to Brush(B) and select Soft brush 3 pxs

Then Return again to Pen TOOL(P) and press right click on the shape and select Stroke Path
and adjust as the pic. below as chose Brush and without stimulate pressure

U WILL HAVE IMAGE LIKE THIS

Step7: for the layer Shape adjust the Blending Option as the images below
Step8: Then make new layer name it "Blue" and go to Layer > New fill layer > Gradient
Make the parameters as follow Radial style with Angle 35 and Scale 126 and note that the colour is light blue with invisible colour as shown in pic. below

NOTE :the most important part in this tuts u have to move the gradient to the corner of the image to give such great colour
Then change the Blending Mode to Color and u can also play with the Opacity to reduce it ((it will give good effect))
Step9: make anew layer and name it "Red"and go to Layer > New fill layer > Gradient
Make the parameters as follow Radial style with Angle (-158) and Scale 126 and note that the colour is heavy red with invisible colour as shown in pic. below

And aslo do not forget to move the gradient red layer to the other corner
Step10: U can add some text to ur design but first adjust the Character Properties as below to give good distances bet. letters
Step11: Learn how to copy layer style
Now U have to give the text u made the same Blending Option of the Shape layer so save ur time only do right click on the Shape layer and select Copy Layer Style
Then on Styles pellets as shown and then Create New Style at the bottom of the image below so that new layer style will created
Then select Text layer and press the layer style u paste in the Styles pellets as shown in image below so that they have the same blending option as Shape layer
Final Image :U can make ur Glow increase by Duplicate the Shape layer twice or more so that the final image will be like this

Preparations

1. original Picture
2. Click here to download the brushes.

Steps

1.Create a document of size 750 by 550px.
Use Gradient tool with foreground color #2B2B2B and background #000000, start a linear gradient from the bottom-left

2. Create a new layer on top of the Background. Set the foreground color to #000000 and background to #FFFFFF.

Then go to Filter > Render > Clouds. Set the blending mode of this layer to Color Dodge.

Use Soft Eraser tool of size 300px, remove some parts of the clouds as shown in the diagram.

3. Crop your model out with Pen tool and place it close to the clouds on the left.

4. Duplicate the model layer and use the Rectangular Marquee tool to select the right half of the duplicated model.

Go to Edit > Free Transform and stretch the half of model’s face to the right as shown in the diagram.

Use Soft Eraser tool of size 300px, fade off the right part of the stretched image.

5. Go to Filter > Distort > Wave.

Set the Generators to 5, Type to Sine, Min Wavelength to 10, Max Wavelength to 120, Min Amplitude to 5, Max Amplitude to 35 and both Scale to 100%.

Select Repeat Edge Pixels under Undefined Areas.

6. Hide the wavy model for the time being and create a new layer on top of it.

Paint a large smoke with color #FFFFFF on the new layer. Position it near to the face as shown in the diagram.

7.Ctrl+left click on the smoke layer to load selection. Then unhide the wavy model and apply a layer mask on it with the selection. Delete the smoke layer once the layer mask is created.

8. Create a new layer above the original model.

Use Smoke Brushes of color #FFFFFF, paint in large smokes on the face of the model on the new layer.

9. Ctrl+left click on the new smoke layer to load. Select the original model layer and apply a layer mask on it with the selection. Delete the smoke layer once the layer mask is created.

10 .Right-click on the original model layer and choose Blending Options.

Activate Outer Glow and set the color to #FFFFFF, mode to Color Dodge and size to 5px.

11. Create a new Levels Adjustment Layer at the topmost and key in the values 40, 0.75, 255.

Create another Hue/Saturation Adjustment Layer above the Levels. Key in the Hue as 190, Saturation as 25 and Lightness as 0.

Optional:

You can paint the eyes white to achieve a more mystery feel. Lastly, add some texts to complete the design!

1. First create a new document. I used 1500×1000 pixels and fill it with color of #542d87.

2. Now, Create a new document with size of 4×4 pixels and draw a skew line by using Pencil Tool as on picture below.

3. Then go to Edit > Define Pattern and save it as pattern. After that go back to our main document and apply the Pattern Overlay layer style to get the next picture:

5. Get out the Horizontal Type Tool and write out Text

6. Well, the second thing to do is to find the elements we will use. I prefer to use these. Let’s start mixing the curls with the type. First you will have to find the right ‘ornament’ for each letter you want. Then you will have to place it in a way that it follows the shape of each letter.

7. Make a new selection with the Rectangular Marquee Tool.

8. Create a new layer and fill it with a white color, then press Ctrl+D to deselect chosen area and apply the Gradient Overlay layer style to get the next picture:

9. Now create a new one layer and merge it with gradient layer and press Ctrl+J to duplicate it. Select our curls and press Ctrl+Shift+I to invert selection, then press Delete to clear chosen area and deselect it with Select > Deselect. Then go to duplicated layer with gradient and make the same things, but this time make a word selection.

10.Then go to new layer with ‘gradient’ word and apply the Drop Shadow layer style to get a picture below:

11. After that apply the Outer Glow layer style to the layer with ‘gradient’ curls.

12. For this effect go to layer with gradient word and select it with Select > Load Selection. Then go back to layer with gradient curls and cut out extra parts of it using Eraser Tool . Press Ctrl+D to deselect image

Final image Review

1. create a new document, 1000×500 pixels, black background.

2. select Horizontal Type Tool and write your text- note the font used is "Verdana"

3. create a new layer, after that activate the Gradient Tool and a White to Transparent gradient, fill in the work area as on picture below.

4.create a selection of the layer contents for out text (you can press Ctrl and click the Layer Thumbnail in the Layers Palette to make this selection). Now, go to gradient layer and press Ctrl+J to create a copy of the gradient in the shape of the text

5. After that you can delete the text layer. Then using Rectangular Marquee Tool select and cut every letter to the separate layer but only type one letter per layer.

6. Create a new layer above all your letters. Create a selection of your first letter and fill in that selection with your selected color on the new layer. Set this layers Blending Mode to Screen.
Repeat this process for the remaining letters using different colors for each letter.
For letter ‘S’ use color of #ff0000;
‘U’ – #ff7e00;
‘S’ – #fffc00;
‘P’ – #a2ff00;
‘E’ – #06ec00;
‘N’ – #00d8ff;
‘D’ – #004eff;
‘E’ – #7200ff;
‘D’ – #f000ff.
You’d now have this:

7. Merge all of your white gradient letters and merge all of your colors into one layer. You should now have two layers - one with the plain gradient letters, the other with the colors for the letters. Then set up opacity to 60% and press Ctrl+J to duplicate each of two text layers. After that apply Filter > Blur > Gaussian Blur with 5.0 pixels

8. Merge all of text layers into one layer and using Rectangular Marquee Tool select and cut every letter to the separate layer but only type one letter per layer again.

9. create new layer. Using Rectangular Marquee Tool create a Rectangular as shown and fill it with color of #e5ffff.

10. Then apply Edit > Transform > Warp . Then choose Arc. Now apply Edit > Transform > Flip Vertical

11. Press Ctrl+J to duplicate layer, then press Ctrl+F to apply Gaussian Blur Filter.

12. For the effect suspended in the air rotate (you can rotate the letters by using Edit > Free Transform) and move your letters as on picture below. Put all the letters above the layers with rope.

13. Go to lower layer with rope and use Select > Load Selection. After that go to each of layers with letters and cut away parts of letters by using Eraser Tool to receive image as below:

14. now you can change the Background color and add effects

Step1: make new work place as 800*600 pixels and fill it with yellow colour >>with any degree of yellow

Step2: with Polygonal lasso tool(L) you can make aselection like this in the image below then make anew layer name it "sunrays"and with slightly brown colour fill the selection with it
as the image below as it appear as sunrays
NOTE>>use Paint bucket tool(G) to fill this selection

Step3: make new layer name it "Ground" make selection with Elliptical marquee tool(M) as this in the image below then with Paint bucket tool(G) fill the selection with vry dark green colour as in the image below
Step4: Make The Grass
making tha grass you have two choice you can use the Brush tool(B) or another way as i use
First>>>on the Ground layer select Smudge tool(R) and adjust it as Diamater 4 px and Hardness 0 % then make some outgrowth from the ground which look like as grass as the image below
Step5: Tree
make new layer name it "Tree"and then download this brush
And use the Brush tool(B) and press F5 to view the brushes and make load for this brush and use it to make such very dark green tree as in the image below

Step6: make anew layer name it "Rainbow" and have Pen tool (P) adjust the setting as in the image below
then make selection that look like one ray as in the first image and fill it with one colour >>Repeat the same thing as you will use the same selection but make anew layer and fill the selection with another colour and etc til u have seven layer (((rainbow layer and another six colour layer )))each of these seven layer have different colour
Adjust them one behind the other til u have the final result as the image below
Selact all these seven layer and press Ctrl+G as they will grouped in one folder name it "Rainbow" and reduce the Opacity to 60%Step7: make Birds
using the same procedures to make the tree you can make good view for ur image
AS download the bird Brush and prss F5 and B and load the brush and make ur image

Step8: Retro shapes
ALSO by the same way download this retro Brush and use it to make such shapes as in the image below
Step9: make Stars
ALSO use stars Brush to make ur image has agood view
Step10: use another clouds image to make good background to the image

first reduce it size to fit with your image and then place it above the Sunrays layer and below Ground layer and finally change its blending option to Overlay
